Courtney Makins
Courtney Makins is South African born, Australian based fashion designer working with textiles in relation to the body. In 2014 she completed her Advanced Diploma at the Central Institute of Technology then completed her Bachelor of Arts, in Fashion and Textiles at Curtin University in 2015. She completed her Masters Degree in fashion design at The Swedish School of Textiles 2019.
Some of her achievements awarded by Curtin University in 2015 include Accumark Cad Training Award and Creativity Through Skills Masterclass. City of Joondalup awarded her with the Urban Couture Show in 2016 and Exhibition prize from Designers' Nest 2020 (Copenhagen, Denmark). Her work experiences include show production and organisation in Melt (2013) and Nightfill (2014) for the North Metropolitan Tafe. Back of house in The Graduates Show (2014) for North Metropolitan Tafe. Back of House management in No.13 Show (2015) for Curtin University. Sampling and production for labels Zhivago (2014), Empire Rose (2015) and Armacool Australia (2016/17). Freelance design work for Workit Wear (2016/17).

She has also now presented collections at FashionClash Festival 2019 in Maastricht, Netherlands and Designers' Nest 2020 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her most recent work 'Absent Bodies' was featured in Vogue Talents Italia for it's innovation towards sustainable material coatings, allowing garments to form without the body and then to washes out to become wearable again.
